The Ralya Green Team: A Legacy of Sustainability
"Today, this initiative has expanded from an original 28 students to a 5th grade club with over 50 participants."
In 2023, Ralya staff and students identified a critical problem: recycling items were being mixed and valuable resources were ending up in the trash. Instead of overlooking the issue, Mrs. Haagensen’s 5th-grade students took ownership, launching a mission to protect our planet that has now become a thriving lunchtime tradition for our student leaders.
Why #RalyaRecycle Matters
The Green Team meets during 5th-grade lunch to tackle three main goals:
- Proper Sorting: Ensuring trash stays out of recycling bins to prevent contamination and waste.
- The Paper Gator: Maximizing the use of our Paper Gator dumpster, which generates important funds for Ralya Elementary.
- Community Education: Teaching students, staff, and families how to properly recycle both at school and at home.
Sustainability is a lasting tradition at Ralya.
Awareness in Action
Our students scripted, filmed, and edited two essential videos to help our community recycle better. You can find them on the Haslett YouTube page or by clicking below:
