The Ralya Green Team: A Legacy of Sustainability

"Founded in 2023, what began as a 5th-grade classroom project has grown into a school-wide mission to protect our planet and our community resources."

In 2023, Ralya staff and students identified a critical problem: recycling items were being mixed, bins were overflowing, and valuable cardboard was ending up in dumpsters. Instead of overlooking the issue, Mrs. Haagensen’s 5th-grade students took ownership, launching an initiative that continues into this year.

Why #RalyaRecycle Matters

The Green Team was formed to tackle three main goals:

  • Proper Sorting: Ensuring trash stays out of recycling bins to prevent contamination.
  • The Paper Gator: Maximizing the use of our Paper Gator dumpster, which directly generates funds for Ralya.
  • Community Education: Teaching students and families how to properly recycle at school and home.

Today, this initiative has expanded from 28 students to a building-wide club.

Awareness in Action

Our students scripted, filmed, and edited two essential videos to help our community recycle better. You can find them on the Haslett YouTube page or by clicking below:
